THE NEW YORK SPECIAL ED KID AUTISM REPORT

A weekly report on our journey

Welcome to the New York Special Ed Kid Autism Report

I was a New York Special Ed Kid and so is my son.

News for Today

Get this : I paid for a legal plan provided by the American Federation of Teachers. You are supposedly able to call a lawyer and get legal advice on any matter.
I called the law firm and told them we need advice on how to handle the Greenburgh school district to get our son in a program that will help him. And what happens? They put me on hold for 5 minutes, come back and say they cannot offer any advice because they REPRESENT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT! How's that for injustice?
It's obvious we parents are on our own with our special needs children. The whole system is rigged against us. What we must always remember is that we are the primary educators of our children. It says so in the Catechism of the Catholic Church because God wants it that way. The school district and the lawyers are only helping us know that to be true. We must turn to God for help first, then try turning to people. Here and there we will find good hearted people to help us.

News for Today

This is called a weekly report but anyone who knows anything about what we're discussing here knows how difficult it is to follow a regular schedule.
The biggest problem I find in caring for our son is that his whole condition was most likely caused by the medical industry (not doctors themselves, most of whom are very good and really want to help), yet every time we try to get help for him to recover, we are told to go to the school district. Why is that? Pressure every day to go to a class room that he is not even able to sit in. That is the only thing they offer. Well, I found book that is enlightening me as to what happened with my public "education" in the NYC public schools and what is happening to my son now. It is called "the deliberate dumbing down of america" by Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt. I am only on the first 70 pages and so far I find everything to be true because I personally experienced the consequences over my own years of being a student in the NYC public schools and and now seeing the same, even worse consequences happening to my son now in another part of New York.

News for Today

I heard today that education will be left more up to the states, rather than the federal government. That means, here in New York, can we expect more of the failed "education" for special needs students? The problem is that local school districts are expected to deal with medical problems such as epilepsy and "autism". It seems to me, they want to make parents "feel" like our children are sitting in a class room learning things like the so-called typical students do. If Special Education is left solely to New York State, God help our New York special needs children. I've gotten updates from the NY Special Ed department over the past few years and they put our tax money into things like "zero emission busing" and trips to holocost musems. They are stealing from us because those are things that interest them but do nothing for special needs students.
